CHANGES FOR THE 2011 ANNUAL GRANT APPLICATION PROCESS

Q. How do local security teams apply for Court Security Cash Funds to send people to the Colorado Court Security Office Training Program?

A. All counties in Colorado may apply for Court Security Grant Funds to pay for attendance at the Colorado Court Security Officer Training Program. Here’s how it works:

  1. Each local security team should meet to discuss the amount of funding they intend to request to pay for the number of individuals they select to send to training.
  2.  Each county’s security team contact shall request $190 per expected attendee for2011.This amount is provided to offset per diem, lodging, and travel expenses associated with attending one of the four training programs to be held in 2011.
  3. The training is available to law enforcement, judges and court staff, county commissioners and county employees.
  4. Registration can be completed on The County Sheriff’s of Colorado website: http://www.csoc.org  No attendee is required to pay the registration fee. The grant progam pays the registration fee directly.
  5. Counties failing to apply for training funds may not be reimbursed by the Colorado Court Security Cash Fund.

Q. What is the deadline for grant application submission?

A.  Grant applications will be due on October 8, 2010.

Q. What is the Videoconferencing Initiative?

A. The Court Security Commission has set aside not less than $600,000.00 for a videoconferencing initiative available to all counties. Counties that have previously received videoconferencing equipment as part of a court security grant are automatically included in the Videoconferencing Initiative. All other grants will be awarded competitively. It is expected that 14 to 19 counties will receive funds as part of this effort. Interested local security teams must prepare a detailed document setting forth the reasons their county should be selected. The purpose of the videoconferencing initiative is to reduce court security concerns associated with transportation of in-custody defendants to court hearings from county jails and state correctional facilities. Local security teams should request $45,700.00 per system as part of their annual equipment request. Local security teams that receive an award as part of the videoconferencing initiative will be required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding in addition to the annual Agreement for Services.

Q. How can I find out more about the on-line grant application process?

A. The 2011 Grant Instructions are posted in the "Documents" section of the website.
